I’m hoping someone out there can help me understand this: I want to install gnuplot on my Mac, and I’ve already installed AquaTerm. I can’t find a binary for gnuplot anywhere, so I’m installing it through MacPorts. However, in doing so MacPorts is downloading a lot of Xorg stuff, as well as AquaTerm. Why can’t it use the AquaTerm I already have installed? Why’s it need all of the Xorg stuff if I already have Apple’s X11 installed?

Quick Questions
toad and I were talking on IRC, and he brought up some questions I don’t know the answers to, so maybe someone reading this can help.
- What complete fields are there besides the real line and complex plane?
- Is every finite field complete in a metric other than the discrete metric?
- What about matrices over a finite field? Since a matrix is a linear operator we can give it in a norm, but does being in a finite field screw with things?
